Haynes eyes top season after being appointed head coach at South Lincs Competitive Swimming Club

The respected Keith Haynes has been named as the new head coach of South Lincs Competitive Swimming Club ahead of the new season.

Haynes was a competitive swimmer himself and spent the majority of his career as an athlete at Reading Swimming Club.

He is a past Berkshire and South Buckinghamshire County Champion in the 400m freestyle, 200m butterfly and 400m individual medley events and was also a regional medallist in the same disciplines.

He also competed at the National Championships (between 1991 and 1995) and, as a member of Reading Swimming Club, he participated in the final of the National League on three occasions.

Following a break from swimming Haynes returned to the sport in 2009 as a coach.

He has worked with Plymouth Leander and most recently spent seven years as the head coach of Caradon Swimming Club in Cornwall. During his coaching career he has taken swimmers to both British and English National Championships and produced a number of Regional Champions and medallists.

NEW ROLE: Keith Haynes.

His proudest moment in his coaching career was the achievement of a new British Short course record in the 200m breaststroke (SB7 classification) by one of his para-swimmers in 2017. During his time at Caradon the club also succeeded in the National Arena League, moving up from Division Three to Division One in the space of just four years.

Haynes said: “Everyone at the club has made me feel tremendously welcome.

“The swimmers have been engaging with me and really taking on board technical input into their swimming and seem very enthusiastic and engaged.

“The club and the swimmers have so much potential to become a real power house within Lincolnshire.

“Having come from a programme, training in a four lane, 25m pool, having six lanes is a real bonus. The swimmers have a great amount of pool time for their training and

I’m pretty sure we will see positive results and progress over the coming season and beyond.”
