Harriers fly further afield

Halmer Harriers were spread far and wide for Saturday’s Parkruns, with no local event available.

Snowden Field at Crowland was out of action due to another event booking so members of the Spalding-based running club went further afield for their weekly 5K fix.

Scott Burrell travelled the furthest and made it worthwhile, earning first place more than a minute clear of the 72-strong field at the Fort William Parkrun in Scotland, coming home in 19 minutes and 36 seconds.

In the North East, Adam Caress strolled round the South Shields course in 51:50, chalking up his 92nd different venue.

Near Manchester, Janet Strickland came in 330th of 449 Parkrunners at Wythenshawe in 34:32, and over the county border in Yorkshire, Emily Brown was 150th of 257 at the Penistone run in 30:17.

Closer to home, a trio of Halmer Harriers took on the Beacon Hill Country Park event in Loughborough. Lisa Gill was 83rd, 30:45; Jayne Pell 122nd, 39:09; and Kathryn Chapman, 131st, 41:40, of the 152 finishers.

At Rutland Water, Simon Eldridge came home 67th of 303 in 24:36, and Rebecca Pearce was 91st of 159 at the Wisbech Parkrun in 32:44.
