Harding provides key to unlocking leaders’ run

Consti E suffered their second defeat of the Spalding and District League season but hung on to top spot.

Chris Back (O56) had a break of 33 as he took the opening frame for Holbeach E with a
73-45 win against Sean Jones (O4).
Jack Chilvers (O7) hit a break of 22 to level things for the visitors, 87-35, but Ben Harding’s (O35) black ball 67-57 win proved pivotal.
That was followed by a 62-42 success for Pete Ransome (O28) to secure victory before Simon Law (O7) pulled one back in a 4-2 defeat.
Services C moved to within a point of top spot thanks to a 5-1 win against Sutton Bridge.
Geoff Hemsil (R28) opened with a 90-52 win and it was all over after Jordan Philpott (R7) and Kev Fitter (O14) emerged victors.
Wayne Howard (O14) won 46-43 on a black ball game for the visitors before Nigel Cherry (O7) wrapped things up with an 84-40 success.
Bourne SC A sit two points off the leaders after beating Consti H 4-2. Mark Gray (O105) was their star with a black-ball 134-129 win against Jonny Holdershaw (R7), including breaks of 63 and 22.
Bourne SC B opened a gap over bottom side Sutton Bridge with a 4-2 triumph at Donington C.
Elsewhere there were wins for Holbeach C , Holbeach D and Pyramid C.
Donington A dropped out of the top two in Division Two with a 5-1 reversal at Whittlesey C after Nigel Brasier (O21) had given them an early lead with a black-ball 65-55 win. That only provoked the hosts though, as they won the remaining games.
Consti B won 4-2 at Pyramid B, hitting back from 2-0 down with success for Mick Johnson (O28), Steve Spencer (R21) and John Keeton (O7) to maintain top spot, level on points with Pyramid A, who won 5-1 at Consti F.
Holbeach B beat Donington B 5-1, with wins for Barry Haynes (O7), Charlie Mullane (R21), Pete Mullane (O18) and Neil Harvey (O14), while Pyramid D opened a gap over the bottom four thanks to a 5-1 win against Gosberton, where James Sharpe (O42) struck a 25 break in his 69-61 win.
Jason Rose (O14), Andy Neal (R7), Paul Doades (SL), Fred Cummins (R7) and Alan Hansard (scr) secured a whitewash for Services B at Gosberton A and wins for Steve Dent (scr) and Matt Smith (O85) saw Holbeach A recover from 2-1 down to beat Services D 4-2.
Alex Bourne (O21) rounded off Holbeach F’s 5-1 win at Consti J with a
73-15 verdict after David Lefley (R28), Susan Lefley (R28) and Dan Mayfield (O28) had won the first three frames. That saw them stay six points clear in Division Three. The top four teams all won 5-1 with second-placed Gosberton C seeing off Boundary B, courtesy of victories for Stuart Tamplin (R7), Chris Sibley (scr), Mark Payne (O7) and Rob Lockett (R28).
Consti C sit in third place with wins from Pat Bowman (R28), Dave Banister (scr), Mark Craig (R14) and Kevin Sweeney) after Geoff Harris (R28) had given hosts Donington D the early lead.
Consti I complete the top four after their success at Whittlesey B.
Consti D fell to a fourth consecutive defeat, going down 4-2 at home to Gosberton B, a result repeated at Consti A, who emerged victorious against Whittlesey A.
