Great finals night sees Consti A doing the league and cup double

The Spalding and District Darts League’s finals night was well attended and some good darts were thrown.

All three team knockout finals saw a new format of double in double out to make it a testing tournament.

The first final was the Division Three Kelly Foster Cup final between Riverside C and Pinchbeck FC C.

Riverside went 2-1 up after the pairs but Pinchbeck kicked in and won five singles games in a row to take the match, wins coming from Finn Andrew, Liam Dawson, Gary Coomes, Graham Amess and Kenzie Foster.

In the Dick Morgan Division Two Cup final Consti E went 2-1 up in the pairs, but Darren Norton fought back and levelled the game for Riverside B.

Paul Blow edged Consti forward but they found themselves level again thanks to a win from Josh Higgins.
Consti then made a dash for the trophy and thanks to Calum Ward and Mark Dixon won the next two games to take the title.

Next up was the coveted Supreme Cup Division One final which was between league champions Consti A and Lincoln Arms A.

Consti went 2-1 up but Luke Rhodes beat Jason Vines to level the scores.

Consti then got in the driving seat with Sam Roberts beating Steve Stancer and Chris Fidler beating Karl Rolfe putting Consti one away from victory.

Andy Bingham and Nick Moyses both won their games to take the title and the league and cup double for Consti.

There was a Division Three 180s throw off between Gary Coomes and Callum Day in which Day won. Division Two 180s was won by Darren Norton and the Division 1 180s throw-off ended up being between five players and delivered some great darts with lots of trebles being hit but the winner with a score of 300 in nine darts was Chris Fidler.

The night then focused on the divisional singles and pairs finals with chairman Ian Tilley calling the match and vice chairman John Robinson scoring.

The Division Three pairs final was between Pinchbeck FC C’s Finn Andrew and Ash Brown and Riverside C’s Archie and Alan Austen.

The Riverside duo came out as 2-1 winners with Archie scoring 132 and 100 and Alan scoring 120.

On to the Division Two final between Josh Higgins and Josh Andrews of Riverside B and Will Cliff and Connor Makenzie from Pinchbeck FC A. A few nerves showed but the young guns from Pinchbeck won the title 2-0.

In Division One the final was between Rose and Crown C duo of Logan Goddard and Ant Richardson and Stu Page and Josh Ford from Royal Mail Cart.

Goddard and Richardson started off well, the second leg could have gone either way, but they won the leg and the game 2-0.

The Division Three singles final was a high scoring encounter between Martin Weed from Tigers A and Jordan Philpott from Pinchbeck FC C.

Philpott won 3-0 but Weed more than played his part with six scores of 100 or more and Philpott hitting four.
The Division Two singles final was between Tom Elderkin from Pinchbeck FC A and Higgins from Riverside B.

Higgins wanted to make up for his doubles disappointment and went 1-0 up. In the second leg Elderkin was in control but with a few missed doubles Higgins went 2-0 up. He then kicked in and with the help of a 180 and a 140 in the last leg he won the game with a 15-dart leg.

The final game of the night was the division singles final between Steve Urch from Drayman’s A and Mick Holstead of Green Dragon A.

Holstead came into the night in hot form winning a local competition the night before, and Urch has been a top player for over 45 years, so this game was always going to be good.

Holstead edged it 3-1 with six scores of 100 or more. Urch scored five scores of 100 or more and missed a double in the last leg which would made the game 2-2, but Holstead held his nerve and won the title.

Thanks went to Spalding Services for hosting the night, the bar staff and to John Charlton who sponsors the JMC darts league. Thanks also went to the committee and to Jonny Robinson, John Robinson, Sam Roberts and Ian Tilley for their help on the night.
