At 17-years-old, a Gosberton sixth-former has become the youngest person in her group to pass the intensive IAM RoadSmart advanced driver course.
Billi Jackson, who is studying at Spalding High School, is the first 17-year-old to pass the advanced motorist course at the Boston IAM Roadsmart group.
Billi said she was really happy when she passed and took the test for a number of reasons.
“I took the test in order to gain more confidence in my driving as well as to improve my skill and awareness,” she said, adding that she “took the test for the challenge.”
Billi said she had four observed drives before taking the test and also studied the IAM theory manual.
Billi’s grandfather, driving instructor Paul Collier, said: “The Boston group of the IAM ran an incentive course for under 25-year-olds.”
It was under Paul’s instruction that Billi learned the essentials for the course.
“I taught her to drive initially and also took her on the advanced course. She was then tested by a retired class 1 police driver to make sure she reached the required standard,” said Paul.
The course covers skills such as observation, timing, optimum road positioning and reading other road users’ unpredictable behaviour.
IAM Roadsmart claims that 90 per cent of qualified members enjoy reduced insurance rates as a result of the proof of their advanced road skills.
