‘Good’ maternity service

Maternity services at Peterborough Hospital (pictured) have improved, says the Care Quality Commission.

An inspection and report found there had been ‘significant improvement to the maternity service since the last inspection.’
The report said there was also improvement in management of equipment, governance and storage of patient records.
“Leaders ran services well using reliable information systems and supported staff to develop their skills,” said the report.
Staff said they felt respected, supported and valued and were focused on the needs of women receiving care.
“The service engaged well with women and birthing people and the community to plan and manage services,” it added.
Recently refurbished wards and good infection control were also highlighted by the inspectors.
The service cared about its staff and they were focused on the needs of those in their care.
Overall, the hospital retains a ‘requires improvement’ award, the recent inspection concentrated on the maternity services. It did highlight that not all women had one-to-one care during active labour.
