Gold all the way for Taylors

For the 31st year running, a South Holland company has been awarded a prestigious Gold Medal at the world-famous RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

Taylors Bulbs has won a total of 33 Golds over the years and is a stalwart of the Grand Pavilion at the show held in the grounds of the Royal Chelsea Hospital, synonymous with its scarlet-coated pensioners from the Armed Forces.

The medals were handed-out on Wednesday morning and the latest adds to an impressive collection at the Holbeach HQ of the family-run business.

Its display featured more than 4,000 stems with 46 different varieties.

And it was a second Gold from the Royal Horticultural Society this month as Taylors made its debut at the Malvern Spring Festival and was awarded the top mark for its display which showcased more than 40 varieties of daffodils grown specially for the event.

Taylors farms more than 1,800 acres of which 370 are dedicated to daffodils each year and the company is one of the largest bulb companies in the country.

More than 3,000 tonnes of daffodil bulbs pass through the yard and at peak times there are 20 vehicles loading to distribute them around the country. The company also farms traditional arable crops including cereals and vegetables.

“It’s been a real team effort to get us here from planting and growing the bulbs, selecting and cropping the best flowers, getting everything here in once piece and arranging the display,” said Charlotte Daubney, direct sales manager.
