Friendly round-up: Tulips on red-hot form ahead of Posh clash, Tigers comeback to beat Crowland

Spalding United have been in fine pre-season form ahead of their glamour clash with Peterborough United at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field on Friday night (7pm).

The Tulips put on a dazzling first-half display to defeat Harrowby United 4-0 last Friday night, just days after crushing hosts Deeping Rangers 5-0 on Wednesday night.

Jordan O’Brien made it 1-0 at Harrowby with a smart low finish, before Elliot Sandy doubled the lead after a defensive mix-up.

O’Brien then added his second from the penalty spot, while Sandy also doubled his money after finishing off a defence-splitting pass from Archie Jones.

All of the goals against Deeping came in the second half, with Jones, Stefan Broccoli, Dylan Edge (2) and Matt Sparrow the scorers.

At the moment, the game with Posh is Spalding’s final pre-season fixture – although they do hope to arrange another game for Tuesday night ahead of their FA Cup clash with Deeping next Saturday (August 6).

  • Holbeach United came from behind to win 2-1 against Crowland Town on Tuesday night.

Harry Grigas fired the PDFL side ahead at half time, but Cal Davies and John Yambasu gave the Tigers the win.

Friday night saw Holbeach beaten 3-2 at March Town in a classic contest. George Martin and Davies grabbed the goals for Danny Clifton and Simon Robert’s side, who lost to a superb last-gasp free-kick.

The Tigers also drew 0-0 at Step Four side Yaxley last Wednesday night.
