A free musical festival which has been at the centre of a political argument will go ahead again this month.
Ayscoughfest proved a huge hit when first held last year with many heading to Ayscoughfee Hall to enjoy the local musicians.
It was held as part of an attempt to attract people to the town centre by members of Spalding Town Forum, led at the time by South Holland Independent councillors.
However in January members were told by South Holland District Council staff not to hold events like Ayscoughfest and a Christmas event in The Crescent themselves and instead go through the council.
Coun Ingrid Sheard had said at the meeting where the forum was reminded of its role that she had paid money out of her own pocket for Ayscoughfest to take place.
She’s also written a letter which can be read here.
It is now back and being held on Saturday, July 26, organised by South Holland District Council and funded by numerous councillors from different parties.
That’s including South Holland Independent Coun Mark Le Sage, a musician who has organised the bands, both last year and this.
“I’m just really pleased that what was such a hugely successful event last year is going ahead again,” he said. “That is thanks to the support of the council’s communities team and portfolio holder Coun Henry Bingham.
“We’ve some fantastic acts who are all looking forward to playing.
“We also want to continue to grow it from such a fantastic start.”
The festival is aimed at families and will be an alcohol- free zone.
The district council’s Communities team is putting on extra activities for all the family including mini-golf, garden games and face painting.
Attendees are encouraged to take their own picnics, but Ayscoughfee Cafe will also be open.
Coun Elizabeth Sneath, portfolio holder for conservation and heritage, said: “Ayscoughfest is a fantastic opportunity for families and residents to come together and enjoy a day of free entertainment in Spalding.
“We’re proud to offer a welcoming, inclusive event that celebrates our local community and I’d like to encourage everyone to come along and join the fun and games.”
