Fran earns judges’ special prize

A Surfleet woman who has fulfilled a lifelong dream to study art has been honoured with a prize for one of her works.
Fran Healands, from Surfleet, was awarded the Judges’ Special Prize at the Blackfriars Art Exhibition in Boston.
Her environmentally-inspired piece “A Walk in Print” was selected from over 40 entries as the one that most impressed the judges.
Many will know Fran as South Holland’s best-known face-painter, but for the past year she’s been pursuing a life-long dream to study art.
Fran (39), pictured receiving her prize from the Mayor of Boston, said: “To receive the judges’ award is amazing.
“I never dreamt when I began my studies a year ago that I would learn so much and that I’d be standing here.
“I’d encourage anybody who has a dream to go for it. Art has changed my life.”
Fran’s work and that of other artists from the area can be seen at The Blackfriars Art Centre, Boston, until November 28 (10am-4pm).
Entry is free.
