Long Sutton Athletic 6
Oundle Town 2
Player/assistant boss Matty Cawthorn hopes everything has now clicked into place at Long Sutton Athletic after his four-goal haul fired the team to a 6-2 victory over high-flying Oundle Town on Saturday.
Cawthorn’s haul in the ChromaSport Peterborough League Division One clash at London Road included a hat-trick of headers, while striker David Wilson added a double.
Oundle went into the game in third place, but the Magpies know they are a match for anyone on their day.
Player/boss Danny Goddard handed himself a start for the first time this season and Cawthorn, who now has 14 goals in ten games this season, felt the team finally clicked.
He said: “Saturday’s win was massive for us as a team.
“We’ve played well in previous games and come undone, conceding sloppy goals. But everything clicked into place and hopefully we can start to put a run together.
“Scoring four was pleasing – especially getting three decent headers as, according to a lot of people, I can’t head the ball!
“But I must give massive credit to (player/boss) Dan – he finally started himself.
“We work hard together throughout the week to get things right for a Saturday. So it was pleasing to get three points and for both of us to be out there together.”
