Former firefighter and landlord is given vintage send off

A pub is set to be partly re-named after its former landlord whose coffin was given a special send off by firefighters last week.

Nigel Woods passed away in April aged 70 after a short battle with cancer.

He’d been a retained firefighter with Spalding for 42 years before taking on the ownership of the Lincolnshire Poacher pub in Spalding alongside grandson Konner Woods.

And part of the pub will become Woody’s at Lincolnshire Poacher when it re-opens after the COVID-19 lockdown.

Last week, a 1937 Leyland Cub fire engine helped escort Nigel’s coffin to his funeral at the South Lincolnshire Crematorium in Surfleet.

Konner said: “The funeral went well and what the fire fighters did was great.”
