Holbeach United 2 Peterborough Northern Star 1
Josh Ford’s 91st minute stoppage time winner ensured Holbeach United head into the Christmas period with four straight wins.
The Tigers found it tough going against the spirited visitors but amid horrendous conditions their late push resulted in the three points.
In just his second start, 16-year-old Reif Clarke had given Holbeach a first half lead.
Northern Star got back into the game through a Harry Fitzjohn strike in the second half, but Holbeach stuck to their guns and a minute into stoppage time Ford’s fine finish earned them the points.
“To be fair we played really well in the first half,” said Holbeach United manager Seb Hayes. “Then the first 10 minutes of the second half they gave it a good go and were the better side, but after that the two teams cancelled each other out for a long period.
“We started pushing for a winner and it was great to get it in stoppage time especially given the conditions.
“It was a good goal that involved some good football and a fine finish from Fordy who got on the end of the ball in.
“Northern Star didn’t really deserve to lose in terms of the effort they put in, but then they only had one shot on target in the game and it was us that put the pressure on to get the win late on.
“At times we played some good football in horrible conditions against a good, young side.
“We’re a side at the minute that is never giving up and it’s great to see.”
