A charity football match has helped a family towards netting their goal of raising enough money to buy a potentially life-changing cap.
A group of footballers came together at Pinchbeck United’s Knight Street ground on Sunday to raise funds for five-month-old Mason Battley who has been diagnosed as in the worst one per cent in the country with brachycephaly, or flat headed syndrome.
It’s hoped a specialist cap could stop him from developing sight and hearing problems in later life.
On Sunday a team raised by Dom Mason took on Ben Thorpe’s side in the fundraising game with Dom’s side winning on penalties after a 4-4 draw.
Importantly they raised £175 for Mason’s appeal.
Mason went to the game with mum Georgia Spinks, who said: “It was really, really amazing to see so many people turning out for Mason.
“I’d like to say thanks to Dom and Ben who put the teams together for the game and helped raise the money.
“We’ve around £400 from JustGiving and with Dom’s money and my money, we just need to raise another £800.
“We’ve also got enough to put a deposit down on a cap so he’s going to get it fitted next week.”
