A float planned to represent Spalding at this year’s Flower Parade could be set for a bee theme.
Transported Arts is working with the Spalding Town Forum on its entry for the event on Saturday, May 13.
They are also looking to work with local schools on different parts of the float for which £10,000 has been budgeted.
“Our theme of ‘The Bee’ addresses our current era of environmental awareness,” documents submitted to the town forum state.
“All workshops will aim to make good use of natural, reclaimed or recyclable materials to ensure the sustainability of our work and minimise our impact on the natural environment.
“We will create a Queen Bee mobile sculptural feature that processes at the centre of our section of the parade.
Costumed ‘worker bee’ primary school children will walk either side, potentially giving out seeds or other favours to the audience.
“Interspersed throughout the bees will be large flowers carried by members of the local community.”
The recent town forum meeting urged Transported to work with Spalding schools while there was also a reminder that the forum had previously requested the float contain a memorial to the late councillor Angela Newton who passed away last year.
