Firm says it’s following government rules after employee is hospitalised with virus

A Spalding food supplier has said it’s continuing to work safely after an employee was hospitalised with COVID-19.

Dalehead Foods, which is a division of Tulip Ltd, told staff of their colleague’s illness at a briefing on Monday, it’s been claimed.

A concerned employee contacted The Voice saying workers had been left worried and were upset they hadn’t been told in which department the ill person had worked.

The employee, who wishes to remain anonymous, said: “We’re all worried and fearful of contracting the virus and taking it home to our families.”

However a spokesman for Tulip said that the firm continued to follow government rules in relation to COVID-19.

The spokesman said: “We can confirm an employee was diagnosed with coronavirus after being out of the business for around a week and has subsequently been treated in hospital.

“Our thoughts remain with them during their continued recovery.

“The site operates strict hygiene controls which are required for food processing operations and the entire site undergoes an intense clean on a daily basis.

“The government has clear rules in relation to coronavirus and food processing sites which the entire business is following to the letter.

“A number of additional measures have been put in place to protect our workers during this time.”
