Fantastic family fun raises cash for good community causes

Thousands of visitors flocked to the Crowland Show at the weekend and local good causes are set to benefit.

Glorious summer weather ensured a steady flow of visitors to Snowden Field to enjoy a range of attractions on Saturday.

Circus workshops, dog shows, horse shows, music, birds of prey and refreshments were all on offer at the event.

Organisers were delighted with the turn out and are already turning their minds to next year’s 40th anniversary.

“It went really well and numbers were up. The weather was beautiful and it was perfect,” said show secretary Helen Turpin.

“We had three times the number of dogs than usual in the dog show, it was a massive upsurge and we had to get extra help,”she added.

The show is run by volunteers and funds raised are distributed to local groups to help with activities. Local charities are also encouraged to hold their own event or have a stall at the show to boost takings.

The show is also affiliated to Equifest, with a variety of classes. The horse section was expanded this year to offer unaffiliated classes and a fun gymkhana.

“We are already planning for a huge show next year. It will have a 1970s theme and we would really welcome more help from volunteers,” said Ms Turpin.
