Eyes down for poignant night

A special bingo night brought in over £1,000 for the Spalding Flower Parade last week and was held as a memorial to Coun Angela Newton.

The event was initially organised by the late councillor, but those on the Flower Parade committee decided to continue with the event and hold it in her memory.

A minute’s silence was held to start the evening at the Spalding Services Club held event last Thursday.

For the night itself, Coun Andrew Woolf took on the mantle of bingo caller.

As well as the main game there was a host of raffle prizes donated.

Jan Whitbourn, who took on the organising of the event, said: “It was an evening of mixed emotions which included the ‘feel good factor’ and then to feel the sad and reflective mood when we fell silent to remember Coun Newton.

“Well done to all involved in the event.”

Another bingo night is set to take place on Thursday, October 20 at the services club.

Tulip Talk – with Jan Whitbourn.

Such a great night full of fun and laughter was had with everyone who attended our bingo night on Thursday, September 22, in aid of the Spalding Flower Parade.
I personally felt so proud that we decided to carry on with this night which was initially being organised by Coun Angela Newton.
I wanted to hold this event in remembrance of Angela, she was very passionate about all her work and certainly wanted the Flower Parade to be a success.
It was only right and fitting we carried on and did this in her honour, the evening beginning with a minute’s silence in remembrance of Angela.
Coun Gary Taylor came and as always supported me by bringing his whole family who are a lot of fun and thankfully dad won a ‘prize’, what a relief, especially as he was dragged along to play!
Gary said: “The bingo was a truly amazing community gathering which was organised so successfully.
“So much money was raised by those attending and donating raffle prizes and taking part in the bingo to raise funds for our parade.
“I was so pleased to have asked Coun Andrew Woolf to be our bingo caller. He certainly made us all laugh and did a great job.
Andrew said: “It was great to see people coming out to support fundraising for this event. It was full of fun and laughter.
“I was pleased Jan stepped up for us all and carried on with this event for Angela.
“It was only fitting and right that a minute’s silence was held for her before the bingo began.”
Steve and Sandra Timewell came and took the money at the door for the bingo books.
He was elated to see so many people coming through the door, all wanting to be part of the event to raise money and be a part of Spalding’s Flower Parade.
Steve spoke to everyone at half time telling them all about the event and what is needed and the success so far.
Steve said: “I cannot stress how grateful I am that people came out to support our cause. I’m honoured that people have faith in me.”
Thank you to everyone who brought in raffle prizes. There were so many I’m sure most went home with a prize.
Two ladies brought in two great prizes to be auctioned off and we raised nearly a £100 alone with those which is amazing. Thank you!
I would like to sincerely thank Sam and her team at the Services Club for her help and generosity with this event. I appreciate the time you gave me and the team were great.
My sincere thanks must go to Bakkavor who were so helpful in making this event the success it was.
Thank you to Russell Kirk who did a great job, encouraging everyone as they came in to buy the tickets and more at half time!
Our next bingo evening, in aid of the Spalding Flower Parade, which Angela initiated, will be on Thursday, October 20.
I am looking for prizes as always if you have any boxes of chocolates that you don’t need, or shouldn’t be eating!
