Next Thursday (May 8) marks 80 years since the end of World War II in Europe, and a host of events are taking place across South Holland to mark the occasion.
Street parties are being encouraged on Bank Holiday Monday (May 5) as part of the Great British Food Festival.
Gosberton Risegate is hosting its VE Day celebration on Saturday (May 3) at St Gilbert and St Hugh Church Hall from 5pm. Tickets are £12.
The Pinchbeck Community Hub is having its celebration on Bank Holiday Monday from midday onwards.
On VE Day itself, there will be a host of events and pubs are being allowed to stay open for two hours longer.
In Spalding there will be a service of remembrance at St Nicholas Church at 11am, while at the same time, South Holland District Council will be raising the VE Day flag.
Many communities will join other people around the country lighting at 9.30pm.
Holbeach, Long Sutton and Moulton are among those lighting beacons, many lighting them together at 9.30pm.
Moulton will have an event around the anniversary, including a lantern parade leaving Moulton Mill at 7.30pm. It will light its beacon at 8.15pm.
Long Sutton will be among those lighting at 9.30pm, with the local fire crew doing the honours. Events take place from 6.30pm and visitors are encouraged to take a picnic.
Holbeach’s beacon will be lit by the town’s Royal Observer Corps Association at 9.30pm on May 8. The event surrounding it starts at 8pm and the association is fundraising as it looks to put on a fireworks display. Search for Holbeach Beacon VE Day.
Holbeach Parish Council is hosting a separate event at Carter’s Park from 5pm including games and music. It will also involve ‘lighting of lamps of peace’ at 9.30pm.
The WI Hall will be open from 10am to 1pm for £10 entry and there’s a street party in Church Street from 12pm to 4pm.
Tydd St Mary will have a day of events at the playing field. It will be from 3pm to 11pm and include flag raising and bell ringing.
Celebration events will continue the following weekend with Crowland Parish Council hosting a celebration from 2pm to 10pm on Saturday, May 10, at the Snowden Field. It will include live music, food, kids activities and games.
On the same day in Fleet there will be live music and a supper at the event at Lawns and Lakes Caravan and Camping site from 7.30pm. Tickets £10.
