Event for Barbara raises thousands

Pinchbeck put on a special ‘Celebration of Life’ for one of its residents and former parish clerk raising £7,000 for charity.

The Community Hub and Library hosted the event for Barbara Camps on Saturday in aid of Macmillan, Marie Curie and St Barnabas Hospice.
It was organised by friends and former colleagues.
Sadly, Barbara herself was too unwell to attend.
But paying for pictures with a cardboard cut out of her raised £220.
Other attractions included a hugely popular raffle, a dog show, a host of cakes baked the Women’s Institute.
A spokesman said: ” Thank you all once again we truly do live in a wonderful village that cares, supports, and gives when asked.
“It really is humbling.”

Tulip Talk by Jan Whitbourn.

This Saturday at the Community Hub and Library in Knight Street, Pinchbeck we held A Celebration of Life event on behalf of Barbara Camps, who has worked there as well as being the clerk of the parish council for many years.
Unfortunately Barbara was unable to attend the event but her heart and soul was certainly with us all.
We had a life-size cardboard cutout of her and asked everyone for a donation when having their photo taken with her. More than £220 was raised!
All funds raised would go to Macmillan, Marie Curie and St, Barnabas, to thank them for all the love and care they have given to so many people as well as to Barbara, during these last few months.
Myself, Maureen Harvey, who has also worked with Barbara for many years, Julie Collins and Lisa Atkinson with other ladies from the Hub worked tirelessly over the last few three weeks, getting raffle prizes, tombola prizes, fruit, veg and engaging with many volunteers who all wanted to be part of the event.
So many good organisations came together all willing to give so much as Barbara had touched many lives over the years.
Volunteers came in and worked with us to make the event it was, including the Women’s Institute selling a variety of cakes and refreshments.
Big thanks to Tracey Wells who raised £600.
Thank you to the Lions who brought their games for the children to play.
We were also treated to a great barbecue with Ray and Jax Clements as chief chefs, raising £247.
We held a Dog Show with the help of Helen and Ray Vaitkevicius from Lincs Training.
Helen said: “I thought it was a lovely show, well attended and there was so much fun.
“So many wonderful dogs came and made everyone laugh, it was a lovely community event.”
South Holland District Council chair Andrew Woolf and wife Wendy judged categories such as ‘waggiest tale’ alongside Karen and Kate Watkin .
Massive thanks must go to everyone who donated prizes including John Burns who provided dog food and judged the Best in Show and Rookes Pet Foods who provided treats for dogs and owners alike.
Jason Rookes said: “It was a pleasure to be part of this event, community matters and we like to support these events and help to make a difference for charity.
“I hope to see the dogs come into the store and hope they enjoyed the treats we gave them.”
We had some amazing raffle prizes so thanks to everyone who donated so much to these great causes.
We do not have the total amount yet but know we have raised over £7,000 for these three charities.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to this event and to everyone in the community who attended and helped to make it a success.
Help us add to our final amount by bidding on a family ticket to the South Holland pantomime in December. if anyone is interested
Contact me with your bid for them and the highest bid will receive the tickets.
