Emma’s making bouquets good enough to eat

What could be more lovely than a beautiful bouquet for Valentine’s Day? How about one that tastes as good as it looks?

District nurse Emma Adams has honed her baking skills to develop just that through her cupcake bouquets and is making a go of turning her hobby into a business.

Emma (37), of Apeldoorn Gardens, Spalding, launched The Brit Pop Shop, making and selling homemade cakes in a bid to gain more work/life balance and more time with daughter Macey (4) and  husband Richard, who works at a Pinchbeck abattoir.
She has reduced her nursing hours to fit in with school and fits her baking into evenings and weekends.

Emma said: “I wanted to spend more time at home and have been doing cakes and cupcakes for family and friends for a few years.
“A friend inspired and pushed me to ‘just do it’ and have a go at making it a business. I really love my nursing but wanted to stay at home a bit more with Macey.

“I started off with birthday cakes and cupcakes but wanted to come up with something different in the area.
“My job is quite stressful and I find this relaxing. Turning it into a business has been a lot of hard work but in my job I’m used to working to deadlines and juggling lots of things – and of course good hygiene!
“I’m quite careful about what I take on because I don’t want to let people down.”

Emma took an online course to learn how to make the finer decorating skills needed to make the  bouquets.
They have already captured the imagination of customers and she has had orders for a number of themed bouquets for a wedding as table centre pieces.
