East Midlands Trains ends lease agreement with South Holland Radio at Spalding Railway Station

The premises at Spalding Railway Station formerly used by South Holland Radio now stand boarded up.

East Midlands Trains has ended the radio station’s 25-year lease, which was agreed with Central Trains in 2007.

A spokesman said: “Unfortunately the former lease agreement between East Midlands Trains and South Holland Radio has come to an end.
“We have recently signed a new agreement with the Department for Transport that will see our franchise extended until at least March 2018, and, as part of our future plans, we are looking to create community spaces at some of our stations and Spalding would be an ideal location for this.
“We are currently exploring the opportunities available.”

Alan North, one of four South Holland Radio directors, told The Voice he was unaware of notices put up by East Midlands Trains on the premises in Station Approach advising that property needed to be collected.
Mr North had no comment to make.

However, he did confirm that the station – a Community Interest Company – was still broadcasting on the internet.
