Durham in the points but Laffins ends up in hospital

Asher Durham made light work of the tricky Thruxton track to bag a points finish in round seven of the British Supersport Championship.

The South Lincolnshire-based G&S Racing Kawasaki team rider faced the fastest circuit in the calendar, knowing the abrasive surface would be hard on tyre life.
However, in Sunday’s feature race he finished 11th to increase his tally to 54, placing him 12th overall in the rider standings.
Free practice and qualifying went well for all three of the team’s riders.
Starting from the sixth row in the sprint race, Sam Laffins was quick to get away but on the sixth lap tangled with another rider and suffered a heavy crash.
He was taken to the circuit medical centre for assessment before being transported to hospital for further treatment. He had a lengthy operation on his injuries on Sunday and is recovering well.
Once the race was restarted, Durham finished 19th, one place ahead of G&S Racing teammate Jorel Boerboom.
Boerboom got a good start to the feature race, making up five places on the first lap and ended up in 17th place.
Team manager Tom Fisher wished Laffins a speedy recovery and said: “He was doing around 160mph when he went down at Church bend.
“He is recovering well from surgery and thanks everyone for their best wishes.”
The next round is at Cadwell Park over the Bank Holiday weekend of August 24-26.
