Dunn wants Pinchbeck United to show more steel after Corinthians collapse

Ian Dunn admitted that his Pinchbeck United team lost to the better side as they went down 3-1 at Rothwell Corinthians on Saturday.

All looked to be going to plan for the Knights at Seargents Lawn when Ollie Maltby fired them ahead from a Joe Bates corner.

But two goals in as many minutes saw the hosts go in 2-1 up at half time, before a third with 15 minutes left sealed Pinchbeck’s fate.

The defeat saw the Knights fall into the bottom two of the Uhlsport UCL Premier Division standings, with player/boss Dunn not offering any excuses for the result.

“Rothwell are a very good side,” said the veteran striker. “They look better than they were last season, for sure.

“I thought we started quite well and created a few half-chances before we went ahead with a goal from a corner.

“Then I was hoping we’d hang on until half time, but once again we were unable to hold on – and once they got a goal, things changed.

“From then on we were chasing the game and they added a third later on.

“I think we need to realise that conceding a goal isn’t the end of the world and learn to deal with that better.

“We’re a young team and that will come, but we can’t keep making the same mistakes.”

Pinchbeck handed debuts to young keeper Ross Woolley and striker Max Gee in the defeat.

Knights: Woolley, Worthington, Gaukroger, Burton, Nuttell (Francis 74), Ross, Eyett, Wilson, Maltby (Bissett-Clarke 74), Gee, Bates (Kacirek 76). Not used: Shores.
