It’s another weekend of firsts for Pinchbeck United.
The Knights host Long Buckby in ChromaSport UCL Division One for what is their first-ever home game in the league – and their maiden match at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field (4pm kick off).
Having been frustrated by Friday night’s 0-0 draw at a Huntingdon Town side player/boss Dunn felt “played for a draw”, the Knights chief insists Pinchbeck are looking forward to a different kind of challenge on Saturday.
Long Buckby, a stalwart of the UCL, have finished sixth and 13th in the two seasons since they were relegated from the Premier Division – which they won back in 2012.
Dunn feels playing stronger opposition will bring the best out of his side, but once again feels a win is achievable
“I still feel frustrated by the Huntingdon result,” admitted the ex-Boston Town manager. “We absolutely dominated.
“I don’t want to sound disrespectful, but I saw somewhere that one of their managers felt they should have won.
“I’m sorry, but they had no shots in the game and were clearly playing for a draw. Sometimes, when you play a side with no ambition to win the game, you overthink things.
“Their keeper made some great saves and not getting that early goal was the main problem.
“We move on to Long Buckby, who are an established UCL side that have proven themselves capable of beating the better sides in this league.
“To be honest, they are one of the teams we’d look to use as a yardstick to see where we are in this league.
“They always have strong sides that are very capable, so we’ll need to be on our game.
“They have the ability to cause us problems – but we’ll go out to win the game, as we will every week. There’s no circumstance when we’ll look to play for a draw. We want to play good, attacking football and the better sides will bring the best out in us.”
Pinchbeck welcome back star striker Ollie Maltby, captain Nick Bishop and defender Jack Smith to their squad after all three missed the draw at Huntingdon Town.
Kick off is 4pm due to a clash with Spalding-U21s.
