Pinchbeck United finally ended their lengthy losing run with a battling 1-1 draw against Oadby Town on Tuesday night.

New signing Ewan Fieldhouse, who is back with the Knights for a second stint, fired Ian Dunn’s side ahead five minutes before the break at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field.

Sam Burton restored parity 15 minutes from time to set up a tense finale, but the scores remained level to end Pinchbeck’s run of 16 defeats on the spin.

The point is only the sixth collected by the Knights in the Uhlsport UCL Premier Division this season, but moves them a point clear of basement side Sleaford Town.

Player/boss Dunn said: “I was really praying that we held on to the point at the end. The lads wanted a winner but I’m very happy with a point to end the long losing run.

“Oadby are a much better footballing side than us and created more chances than we did in the first half.

“But we got our noses in front with Ewan scoring on his debut. You have to work very, very hard to get a result in this league and I thought we did that.

“A lapse in concentration cost us in the second half and we had to ride our luck at the end, but it would have been a travesty if we had got nothing from the game.

“I’m really, really proud of the lads. With the run we’ve been on, a point is great.

“I’ve experienced a lot of success as a manager here, but that point means a lot – it’s a different feeling.

“Overall, I’m relieved that the run is over and I felt that a result had been coming for us.

“There were lots of positives for us and we can build on this.”
Pinchbeck are at home again on Saturday when they welcome Anstey Nomads to the Sir Halley (3pm).

Meanwhile, striker James Tricks has surprisingly turned down a move to Pinchbeck in favour of staying at PDFL Premier Division side Parson Drove.
