Dunn pleased with Pinchbeck United performance despite latest defeat

Ian Dunn refused to be too downbeat after seeing his Pinchbeck United side beaten for the ninth time in 12 Uhlsport UCL Premier Division fixtures on Saturday.

The Knights were handed a 3-1 defeat at high-flying Loughborough University, who found the net through Alex Dinsmore (13), Connor Smith (68) and Daniel Collins (83).

Skipper Tyrone Burton netted a late consolation – and player/boss Dunn felt that were plenty of encouraging signs.

“I thought we were always in the game,” said the player/boss. “They came out of the blocks really well and knocked the ball around superbly.

“To be fair, their pass and move football was very impressive to watch.

“But i felt we rode the storm and defended really well. We slowly came into the game and there was a moment in the second half when, at 1-0, Pat Kacirek missed a big chance from six yards out.

“They then went up the other end and scored to kill the game.

“That’s football, you have to take your chances. But I certainly think that we’d have had a good chance of getting something at 1-1 with 20 minutes or so left.

“Even when we scored late on, they had a bit of a wobble.

“Obviously you never like to lose a game. But I thought there was plenty we could take from this one.”

Knights: Wooley, Gordon, Gilbert, Burton, Nuttell, Worthington, Finlay, Parsons, Kacirek, Francis, Gee. Sub: Ross, Wilson, Patrocinio.

Attendance: 161.
