Confident player/boss Ian Dunn says that Pinchbeck United aren’t feeling any pressure as they close in on the ChromaSport UCL Division One title.
The Knights took another huge step towards being crowned champions in their first-ever season at Step Six of the non-league ladder after moving 13 points clear at the summit last weekend.
With just nine games left to play – Saturday’s trip to 14th-placed Thrapston Town has already been postponed – Dunn feels that the Knights are perhaps just ten points away from clinching a historic title.
His side are currently on a 19-game unbeaten run, with the veteran striker admitting that he’s seen no sign of nerves as the finishing line draws closer.
Dunn said: “A 19-game unbeaten run at any level is a tremendous effort, but the players deserve all of the credit for the level of performance they’ve put in week in, week out.
“We’ve reached the point where teams are already calling us champions.
“That’s fine – and we have to accept that we’re now massive favourites to win it. I’m running out of things to say about the lads, really. They are very easy to manage and do everything we ask of them – sometimes without us having to say.
“The team spirit in the dressing room is great, too. If we leave somebody out one week, there are no complaints or moans.
“The lads always accept our decision and get on with it together.
“You’d think we’d show some sign of pressure, given that we’re a team made up mostly of players that came up with us last season, or have been signed from other PDFL sides.
“But the lads have just carried on grinding out the results. We’ve got our destiny very much in our own hands, which helps.”
The Knights are scheduled to visit sixth-placed Lincolnshire rivals Harrowby United on Tuesday (7.45pm), but the heavy snow may also see that one postponed.
