Ian Dunn admitted that he was “bored” by Pinchbeck United’s 5-1 ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division win at Thorney on Saturday.
Goals from Tony Edwards (29), Ollie Maltby (33), Liam Ogden (35), Nick Bishop (74) and an own goal (80) eased Pinchbeck to their 14th win on the trot in all competitions.
The victory also allowed The Knights to leapfrog defending champions Moulton Harrox into second place in the table – and they are just three points behind leaders Netherton with two games in hand.
But disgruntled Dunn felt his side only really showed what they are capable of for 25 minutes of the 90 and accepted that the match was a poor spectacle.
However, the ex-Boston Town chief is impressed by the fact his charges can win well when they’re off form.
“It was an awful game,” quipped Dunn. “I’ll be honest, I was bored on the sideline.
“We had two good spells – 15 minutes in the first half and ten minutes in the second – when we actually played well.
“Other than that, it was an off day for us.
“Obviously I’m still pleased that we won so convincingly when not at our best. Thorney isn’t a nice place to go either – the pitch is small and they make it tough.
“We did make a few changes to the side, but in truth we weren’t tested.”
Despite being a little downbeat on Saturday’s success, Dunn is very pleased with how his side are placed at the end of 2016.
Second in the table and sitting pretty in three cup quarter-finals – the Lincs Junior Cup, President Premier Shield and PFA Senior Cup – the quadruple is on for his side.
And with the added incentive of a possible promotion at the end of the season (see page 31), 2017 promises to be a big year.
Dunn added: “We’ve still got a lot of games left and I’m worried that we’ve not been tested since the last time we played Moulton.
“But, if you’d offered me our current position after that slow start, I’d have snapped your hand off.”
The PDFL now has a break until January 7.
