Dunn embraces Pinchbeck United title talk ahead of Burton Park Wanderers test

Ian Dunn admits that it has now become impossible to deny that Pinchbeck United are involved in the ChromaSport UCL Division One title race.

The Knights, who had a rare free weekend, go into this Saturday’s home clash with Burton Park Wanderers (3pm) in second place in the table – just two points behind table-topping Raunds Town with a game in hand.

Burton will arrive at the Sir Halley in 14th place, but having conceded a whopping 61 goals in 15 games – the second worse return in the league.

With top-of-the-table showdowns against Raunds and Buckingham Town on the horizon, player/boss Dunn feels that it’s vital his Pinchbeck side focus on securing three points this weekend.

He said: “It’s becoming difficult to shy away from being title contenders.

“We have to admit that we’re in the title mix, it’s there for all to see.

“Obviously we have Raunds and Buckingham to come, but we can’t look past the next game.

“We’ve done our research and I’m confident that, if the lads follow the gameplan, we’ll walk away with the points.

“The plan is to win all of the next three games, but we’re in a period now where people will either talk us up or play us down.

“We must stay focused on Burton and apply ourselves correctly.

“If we do that, we should keep our good run going.”

Pinchbeck, who have won eight of their last nine UCL Division One games, welcome back the influential Chris Shipley to their squad, but Tom Brooks is still banned.

Youngsters Kofi Ross and Jamie Robinson have joined AFC Boston on loan.
