BOURNE TOWN 4
PINCHBECK UNITED 4
Despite seeing his side rescue a dramatic derby point with two injury-time goals on Saturday, Pinchbeck United player/boss Ian Dunn wasn’t overly pleased.
ChromaSport UCL Division One leaders Pinchbeck maintained their seven-point advantage at the summit following a thrilling 4-4 draw with Bourne Town at the Abbey Lawn, but Dunn insisted that conceding four goals in the league for the first time this season was a “freak occurrence”.
On what was an incredible day of action at the Abbey Lawn, Richard Nelson (8) and a Dan Swan own goal (12) put the Wakes into an unlikely 2-0 lead.
Pinchbeck’s leading scorer Ollie Maltby hit back with his 28th goal of the campaign on 15 minutes before sub Andrew Tidswell levelled matters (35), only for an Adam Rothery effort (41) to give Bourne a 3-2 half-time lead.
The Knights then looked set for their first defeat since September when Jezz Goldson-Williams put the hosts 4-2 up ten minutes into the second period.
That’s how it stayed up until the dying seconds, with Tyler Wright’s 93rd-minute long-ranger and Jack Smith’s last-gasp strike rescuing a point for the Knights.
Dunn felt a draw was the least his side deserved, citing a bad day at the office from his usually reliable keeper Swan as the catalyst for the dropped points.
“To concede four goals like that is a freak occurrence,” bemoaned the player/boss. “Swanny held his hands up after the game, he had an off day for once.
“Unfortunately for keepers, their mistakes are always highlighted. But he’s saved us on plenty of occasions this season – it’s just one of those things really.
“If you score four goals away from home, you expect to win any game. So it was clear where the problem was.
“Fair play to Bourne, they were always dangerous on the counter attack. But I don’t think they really opened us up much on the day.
“We absolutely peppered their goal in the last 20 minutes and the goals were coming. I’ve heard a few people say there was too much added time, but I totally disagree.
“I also think it’s unfair to say we got out of jail, I came away from the game feeling like we should have won.
“Overall, it was a bad day at the office for us, but we came away with a point and our lead at the top of the table is still seven points.
“What this result also shows is that we’ve got lads that will battle to the end. We didn’t give up on the game at 4-2 down and came away with a point.”
