Ian Dunn admits that Pinchbeck United have reached the stage where “any points are good points” for his side.
The Knights are bottom of the Uhlsport UCL Premier Division with just six points from 24 games ahead of Saturday’s home derby with Boston Town (3pm).
Dunn’s side look to be in a straight shoot-out with Sleaford Town for the sole relegation slot and go into the clash with ninth-placed Boston two points behind the Greens.
The Poachers will be hot favourites to take all three points, but Dunn remembers his former side collecting an unlikely point at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field when the roles were reversed last season.
“Boston will come flying out of the traps,” said the Pinchbeck chief. “It’s important that we weather that storm and stay in the game.
“It’ll be tough, Town are full of quality and experience this season and are a very good side.
“If we can stay in the game, I know that we have the ability to trouble most teams at points in a game.
“If we can have a few good spells and take our chances when they come, there’s no reason why we can’t get a result.
“At this stage, any points we can get will be welcome. Boston came and got a point from us last season when the roles were reversed, so it’s always possible.
“It’s all about avoiding defeat for us.”
Striker Corey Kingston should be in the squad after joining on a full-time basis from Wisbech St Mary at the end of last week.
