Holbeach United 1
Yaxley 0
Jake Duffy’s second-half strike earned Holbeach United a vital victory over UCL Premier Divison title rivals Yaxley at Carter’s Park on Wednesday night.
After a goalless and relatively dour opening period, midfield maestro Duffy broke the deadlock on 51 minutes with a goal that moves the second-placed Tigers to within five points of leaders AFC Rushden and Diamonds – with two games in hand.
Holbeach had the better of the chances in the game, with Jamie Clarke missing a great opportunity just before the opener and Matt Nolan seeing a header cleared off the line.
It was all about the result though, with the Tigers holding firm to move themselves five points clear of third-placed Yaxley having played a game less.
More on the game to follow.
Tigers: Conroy, Allen, Cartwright, Miller, Spencer, Steadman (Pinner), Beeson (Parker), Duffy, Clarke (Nolan), Dube, Warfield. Not used: Brown, King.
