A Spalding man, who assaulted a policeman, told magistrates at Boston that he was so drunk he
couldn’t remember doing it.
Matthew Preece, 44, formerly of Middle Marsh, Moulton Marsh but now living care of a doctor’s surgery,
admitted being drunk and disorderly, assaulting the officer and being in possession of a small amount of
cannabis, when he appeared at Boston Magistrates Court.
Ruth Snodin, prosecuting, said that during the evening of July 2, police went to West Street in Boston
after being called by Ambulance Control.
She said the officers found Preece drunk, lying on the ground, and he swore at the officers, waved his
arms around and hit PC Horry in the face.
She said he was arrested and a small amount of cannabis was found in his trouser pocket.
Preece, who had previous convictions for drunkenness, told the magistrates he could not remember what
he had done.
He told them he was now getting help and needed to get a fresh start away from Boston and hoped to get
both accommodation and a college place to study sound engineering in Grantham.
Preece was placed on a 12 month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £100 compensation to the
officer and £85 in court costs.
