A Holbeach pensioner was found to be drink driving after he was involved in a hit and run incident, a court has heard.
Barry Trowbridge (68), of Battlefields Lane North, told police he was heading to pick his wife up around 9pm on Tuesday, February 4 when another vehicle crashed into the back of the Ford Mondeo he was driving at Park Road’s junction with the A17.
Prosecuting Lottie Tyler told Boston Magistrates’ Court that a member of the public had taken Trowbridge’s keys from him as they suspected he’d been drink driving.
“He told police he’d had one can of alcohol, two cans of non-alcoholic beer and sips of a second can,” she said.
The court heard that Trowbridge was found to have 67 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.
Defending Trowbridge, Phillipa Chatterton said he had no previous convictions.
“He was travelling to get his wife and was in the process of crossing the A17 when he was rear-ended. The driver of the other vehicle was nowhere to be seen.
“He’s devastated to be before the court and at receiving his first conviction.”
Trowbridge was disqualified from driving for 18 months to be reduced by 18 weeks on successful completion of a drink driving awareness course.
He was also fined ÂŁ200, made to pay ÂŁ85 costs and a ÂŁ48 victim surcharge.
