PINCHBECK UNITED 2
OLNEY TOWN 3
Olney Town put the skids on Pinchbeck United’s charge up the ChromaSport UCL Division One table with a surprise 3-2 win at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field on Saturday.
Jordan Appleton gave the visitors lead at the Sir Halley, before a quick-fire scoring spree saw the cracking contest explode into life late on.
An Ollie Maltby double (75 & 80) either side of Robert Macdonald’s effort ensured the scores were level at 2-2 with ten minutes left.
However, there was a sting in the tale for the Knights as Drew Mitten’s late penalty hit the post, came back off keeper Ricky Lovelace, and nestled into the back of the net to give the visitors a shock 3-2 success.
To make matters worse for Pinchbeck, young defender James Gordon was sent off for two bookable offences.
Knights player/boss Ian Dunn was far from impressed with his side, admitted they were poor in every department.
He said: “We just weren’t good enough back to front if I’m honest.
“We didn’t deserve to get anything from the game.
“We started well and created a few chances, but I think we started feeling sorry for ourselves.
“Fair play to Olney, they took advantage of our mistakes and punished us.
“That’s a feature of this season for us, really. We’ve come from the PDFL where you can usually turn up and beat sides when you’re not at your best.
“This year, we’re being punished. You can’t just rock up and expect to win.
“I don’t think that Olney were any better than the sides we’ve faced this season, but they did themselves justice.
“In the end they deserved to win and we deserved to go home with nothing. We were poor.
“The players need to stand up and be counted now, it’s important that we bounce back from this kind of performance.”
Pinchbeck are hoping to get back to winning ways when they welcome Sleaford Town to the Sir Halley in a Lincs FA Senior Cup clash on Wednesday night (7.45pm).
