A family are facing a huge bill for medical care after a Gosberton man suffered a stroke that his daughter says has left him partly paralysed while in Budapest, Hungary.
Stuart Goff (70) is described by daughter Patricia Poxon as being in a “serious but stable condition” though he can not move his right side and is being tube fed.
Patricia has flown out to be with him, but as Stuart does not have health insurance,it could cost an eye-watering amount to bring him back.
He does have a European Health Insurance Card which covers the cost of some treatment, but Patricia has been quoted she will need to pay at least roughly £7,500.
She said from Budapest: “Dad is seriously ill and there’s no way I can raise the money to get my dad the medical care and fly him home.
“I have no family members and only my dad left and I’m scared and on my own in Budapest.
“It’s hard to understand what is going on as I can’t talk the language.
“All I’m doing is praying for him to come home.”
Patricia told The Voice that Stuart had bought a place in the Hungarian capital so he could spend more time with his wife Svetlana, an English teacher who lives in Ukraine.
After a four-year courtship they married last year, but she has been denied a visa to live in the UK three times.
Stuart flew out to Budapest on March 25 with the stroke occurring on April 8.
A Foreign and Commonwealth Office spokesman said: “Our staff are assisting the family of a British man hospitalised in Budapest following a stroke and are in contact with the hospital.”
