Over 50 people have signed up to be stem cell donors on a Holbeach man’s day of action in the district.
Dan Chapman (31) is on the waiting list for an urgent platelet donation for aplastic anaemia, a rare and life-threatening condition where the bone marrow fails to produce enough blood cells.
While he waits, he’s campaigning for blood cancer charity DKMS and to get as many people as possible signed up to be donors.
On Saturday he, friends and family organised a stall on Spalding Market and stations at Shoestring Cafe in Holbeach, Unicorns and Riderz in Long Sutton and at Pippa’s Pantry in Sutton Bridge.
“I’m well chuffed that we managed to get over 50 people signed up,” said Dan. “It was really cathartic in a way.
“It was good to raise awareness of the condition but also to meet so many people.
“One lady came up to me in Spalding and said that she’d been following me on social media and she told me ‘look at me now’.
“That and hearing from people who are doing well despite needing a transfer is really uplifting.”
Dan is also raising for Anthony Nolan.
