Work totalling around £85,000 to improve a popular Spalding walking and cycling route is due to start on Monday (February 21).
The Daffodil Route, which extends from Pinchbeck Road to Wardentree Lane on the former Spalding to Boston railway line, is to be subject to improvements including resurfacing and drainage measures.
It’s estimated to take between six and eight weeks, has been secured with Section 106 funding from Spalding Power Station and is being carried out by CG Godfrey.
All work will be carried out during normal daytime hours, and the route will be closed to the public for the duration of the project.
Councillor Gary Taylor, portfolio holder for communities and facilities, said: “I am delighted that we are able to begin this piece of work to carry out these much-needed repairs and improvements to the route ahead of the summer months, and help to improve the infrastructure and offer for the town’s walkers and cyclists.
“The path is a crucial commuting route to Enterprise Road for many Spalding workers, as well as providing access to Johnson Community Hospital and to the beautiful Vernatts Nature Reserve, which the dedicated group of volunteers do such fantastic work at.
“I hope that by making these improvements we can encourage more people to explore the area, and to get out and about on their bikes or for a walk.”
