The team behind a project to remember Spalding Flower Parade while looking to the future is looking for some crafty help.
Local artists Laura Mabbutt and Kathleen Smith are part of the Flower Power project which is being spearheaded by Chain Bridge Forge.
It’s being funded by £15,000 from the Arts Council to gather people’s memories of the parade, which was a major event in the town from 1959 to 2013.
The artists have created craft kits for people to make flowers or floats at home which can then be used in future projects. They have 30 to give away and each kit contains all the materials to complete a project.
There is also a booklet asking participants about their memories of the parade and their thoughts on what shape any future event could take if it were to return.
Geoff Taylor, a director of the Chain Bridge Forge, says he has been encouraged by the positive feedback he has received so far about creating a new event in the future.
He is also encouraging people to share their memories of the parade and has created a survey for people to take part in. It can be found on the South Holland Heritage website at www.heritagesouthholland.co.uk or on the organisation’s Facebook page.
As well as a digital archive or exhibition of the materials and memories collected as part of the project, there is also the possibility of themed artwork and using augmented reality at the forge to replicate aspects of the parade online.
