Couple’s ring find leads to group

A couple who found a medieval ring in Gosberton have launched their own metal detecting club.

David and Dawn Stoneman recently donated the ring to Spalding Gentlemen’s Society after the find in June 2024.

The couple from Heckington say they were ‘surprised and ecstatic’ to find the ring.

“We knew that our treasure was of historic importance and soon presented the ring to our local finds liaison officer,” said David. “We were asked if we were aiming to sell the ring or did we have a view on what to do with it.

“Without any hesitation, we said that we were not interested in monetary value and wish for the ring to go to a museum near to where it was found, so its historic value could be seen and appreciated by everyone.

“We now run our own club, Double D Detecting, along with the help of a very good and knowledgeable friend.

“We are based in Lincolnshire but cover other areas, such as Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire.

“We encourage history loving people to join our group page on Facebook.

“Everyone is welcome, to join us on our digs or just to observe our groups findings.”
