Couple shaken as crash hits home

A couple say they now feel unsafe in the home they’ve lived in for 26 years after a car crashed into it causing structural damage.

Katheryn and Philip Appleton have experienced several road traffic collisions outside their house on the junction of Beach Lane and Clough Road and Risegate Road in Gosberton Risegate.
But the one that occurred between a white Citroen DS3 and a black Audi A7 that ended up in their front garden and badly damaged the house proved a lucky escape.
“I had been in the front garden just 30 second earlier working on the garden,” said Katheryn of the incident around 3.15pm on Sunday, May 12. “If I’d have still been there a few seconds longer I’d have been under a car.
“I’d gone around the back and heard this enormous bang.
“Then I just heard a woman screaming.”
Lincolnshire Police has not confirmed that anyone was injured in the incident.
Philip says one man was airlifted to hospital.
The vehicles crashed into the wall of the couple’s bedroom and dining room.
The pair have been told by structural experts they can no longer use either having to bring their bed down into the middle of the living room.
Structural issues are thought to have occurred throughout the home which is 194-year-old home built in 1830.
“The pressure ricocheted throughout the house,” said Philip, a self employed contractor who has decided not to work this week to support Katheryn. “There’s always accidents outside.
“The house has been hit several times, but not quite as hard as that.”
“It’s made me really panicky,” Katheryn, who is retired, said. “I really don’t think I can sleep upstairs in that room again.
“We used to spend a lot of time in the dining room, but the thought of doing so now makes me feel quite nervous.
“It’s a 40mph on Risegate and Clough Road but people always speed down there.
“People have suggested measures be put in, but what can you do when there’s idiots around.”
“The road has got a lot busier over the years,” continued Philip. “You can feel the lorries going through.”
