County’s 2.9 per cent tax rise

Lincolnshire County Council is proposing raising council tax by 2.9 per cent this year, claiming it’s the lowest rate in decades.

The Reform UK administration says it will be able to balance the budget thanks to extra money from the government, cutting waste, and a small amount of its savings.

The authority could in theory raise tax up to 4.99 per cent, and two percent will automatically be spent on adult social care. But it is proposing to raise council tax by 2.9 per cent instead.

The county council makes up the largest chunk of council tax that residents pay – around 70 percent – and pays for functions like roads, schools and social care.
