County domestic abuse charity comes of age

A charity set up to tackle domestic abuse in Lincolnshire has celebrated its 21st birthday.

EDAN (End Domestic Abuse Now) Lincs has been celebrating providing support, advice and safety to men, women and children who experience domestic abuse.

It officially celebrated the landmark last month.

A spokesman for the charity said: “Our mission is to support and empower all those affected by domestic abuse and to raise awareness of its impacts and promote intolerance of it.

“In the last year we have helped hundreds of people across the whole of Lincolnshire who suffered domestic abuse,” the spokesman continued. “We supported 123 adults and 114 children in our refuge emergency accommodation across Lincolnshire.

“Our Outreach team has supported 3,990 victims of domestic abuse in the community including 475 high risk cases via our IDVA support.”

EDAN was initially set up for the West Lindsey district but is now working across the whole county with Lincolnshire County Council.

It has two multi-occupancy refuge centres (one consisting of 11 units and the other having five units) along with five dispersed properties across Lincolnshire.

The EDAN spokesman continued: “Our countywide outreach services can assist women, men and children who are still living in, or have recently left, an abusive relationship and who require advice and support with regards to options available to them.

“We provide holistic support and specialist intervention for individuals and families, including internally support for children and young people that have been impacted by domestic abuse.

“In addition we can refer individuals with additional complex needs, such as mental health or substance misuse issues, to suitable specialists to help them even further.

“We are part of the Lincolnshire County Domestic Abuse Partnership and work closely with Lincolnshire County Council and Lincolnshire Police to provide coherent and effective response to domestic abuse services in Lincolnshire.”

The charity has also launched a birthday fundraiser through Facebook.
