Councils launch crowdfunder in new way to help raise charity cash

A partnership of district councils including South Holland is launching a crowdfunding platform.

The South and East Lincolnshire Crowd will be launched in early February and is aimed at community projects.

“The aim of this programme is to support local projects which matter most to them, while enabling everyone to contribute towards their community,” says a statement.

Projects can receive a pledge of up to £5,000 from the partnership towards the campaign.

A workshop is being hosted on the launch date of February 7, with experts at the Spacehive website to help learn more about how it works.

Areas covered include funding to help creating a project and how to run a crowdfunding campaign.
Whether the project is big or small, the workshop is an opportunity to learn how to make a difference.

Projects can be created on the Spacehive website and once verified, the crowdfunding campaign can be launched.

The crowdfunding campaign needs to be launched by March 29.

Places on the launch event can be booked via the Eventbrite website. Search south-east-lincolnshire-crowd on the Spacehive website.

The partnership will review all the projects in mid-March and successful projects will receive up to £5,000 – it’s a maximum 50 per cent of the total campaign.

There must be other pledges of funding so the council is not the first organisation to offer financial help.

Organisers of campaigns must have evidence of the costs, the correct permissions and relevant insurances.
They are also being told a campaign should not exceed three months’ duration.

“Start by getting lots of small pledges from the community to show local support for the project. This will help unlock bigger pledges,” says the website.

Projects need to be ‘locally-rooted, tangible and serve a community purpose. General campaigns or funds are not a good fit.’

Once the original funding target has been reached, projects can continue to raise additional funds.

If the target is not reached, refunds will be made to the backers.

Anyone can set-up a Spacehive page and there is a five per cent success fee if the target is reached.
