Council tax bill error for town residents

Council Tax bills have had to be sent out again in Spalding after an error was spotted which cost £5,713.

Residents in the town were re-sent their bills for this year to correct an error in the calculation which was in the first version.
“Following the mailing of annual council tax bills in March, we became aware of a calculation error appearing on the letters which affected all Spalding-based residents. Whilst the final total and the individual amounts on the bill were accurate, legal advice confirmed that Spalding council tax payers were required to be issued with an additional statement displaying the correct percentage amounts,” said a council spokesman.
“13,892 households were identified as requiring this correction, with the new statements sent out to them last week. This re-issuing came at a total of £5,713 which is being covered by the council’s service provider as they identified that the error originated from their systems. We would like to apologise for any confusion caused, if residents have any further queries about their bill they can email counciltax@sholland.gov.uk”
The original bill, above, showed a fall of 88.1 per cent in the district bill – which was not the case.
