I’ve recently completed the first year as a cabinet member so I thought I’d use this column to look back over the past 12 months.

One of the highlights of the last year was the recent purchase of Moulton Park.
We bought the 23-acre site as part of our commitment to addressing a lack of green open space in the district and developing stronger and healthier communities which residents can take pride in.

One of my personal highlights was attending the Spalding and South Holland Festival of Food and Drink back in August last year.
The event featured stalls from several local food producers and attracted visitors from far and wide. I can still taste some of the delicious foods!

Earlier this year we refurbished the changing rooms at the Castle Sports Centre and at Monkshouse and I think everyone who has used them since will agree they are now in much better condition.

We also refurbished the striking iron gates at the Halley Stewart Playing Field in Spalding, which met with plenty of positive feedback.

It was recently brought to my attention that the council’s four industrial sites have all of their units filled – for the first time in many years.
This is fantastic news which I believe demonstrates that the local economy is improving after the struggles of recent years.

All in all it’s been a challenging 12 months, but I’ve enjoyed it and I look forward to the year ahead.
