Council bin lorry knocks over wall turning from closed road

A wall at Spalding Cemetery has been damaged by a council bin lorry.

The incident happened earlier this week and South Holland District Council say it was due to their waste vehicle having to turn around because of the nearby closure of Park Road.

As reported yesterday, National Grid has apologised over the lack of notice for the closure.

Part of the wall around the 1853 opened burial ground on Pinchbeck Road has been knocked down as a result of the incident.

A spokesman for South Holland District Council, said: “Unfortunately, whilst reversing due to a road closure, a council vehicle has damaged the wall outside Spalding Cemetery.

“The damage caused in the surrounding area appears to be minimal, but it has been cordoned off whilst the rubble is cleared.

“Once the debris is removed, we will assess the surroundings for any lasting impact, and would ask people to please keep away from the wall until these checks have been carried out.”
