Costumes spread smiles and eggs

A woman who struggles with agoraphobia was so determined to spread some cheer in her village she and her family donned fancy dress to dish out Easter eggs to strangers.

Simone Martin, of Whaplode, has been unable to practice her job of facepainting due to the lockdown.

But through the charity Little Miracles, who she’s fundraised through for a number of years, she was able to purchase a number of Easter eggs

Last Friday she dressed as an Imperial officer from Star Wars, husband Craig dressed as a Storm Trooper, son Charlie (11) dressed as an Ewok and mum Laura Farmer dressed as a rabbit and handed out eggs around Whaplode.

“I’ve just had a very bad month with having my dog put down and being unable to work and I just wanted to make some people smile,” she said. “With my agoraphobia, I just feel better going out dressed in costume.

“I bought as many Easter eggs as I could through Little Miracles.

“And we just took them round, looking for those with pictures of rainbows in the window and also to every home that held elderly people.”

“When I just got home I cried because the reaction we got was so nice.

“Some of the old people said it was lovely to see someone after having not done so for a while.”

Simone has been fundraising for Little Miracles for a number of years as well as Marie Curie through the Lincs66 facepainting business.

She’s also donated her 3D printer to a group set up to make face masks to be used at Pilgrim Hospital.

And she’s planning on doing more rounds while dressed up. “We want to do something else,” she said. I’ve plenty of costumes.”
