Competition brewing up

A Spalding coffee shop owner is after your votes for a national award.

Hannah Joe, of Jackalope Joe, has been crowned one of the regional winners of this year’s O2’s Everyday Heroes Awards – celebrating independent and small businesses, and the individuals behind them, who have gone above and beyond to support their communities or have remained resilient and resourceful in the face of adversity.

Hannah was nominated by members of the public who wished to acknowledge her dedication in providing the community with fresh, specialty coffee and a slice of normality during a turbulent year.

The micro-roastery opened in November 2019 as a way for Hannah to share her passion for true artisan coffee with Lincolnshire and for consumers to truly understand the background and the supply chain.

During the pandemic, Hannah donated her coffee towards food packages in partnership with a local building company, as a pick-me-up to those shielding.

She said: “I run my business on my own but the support behind me is incredible. I’m so grateful for my wonderful customers, friends and family and it means the world to me to know my business has made a positive impact on my local community.

“Technology is the foundation of Jackalope Joe as I had to shift entirely online during lockdown, so the £5,000 prize for being crowned the national winner would mean that I could upgrade my equipment and bring even better roasted coffee to everyone.”

Members of the public have until Tuesday September 21 to vote by heading to Twitter and @o2businessuk to like and retweet the tweet relating to their vote.
